The College Majors Of Every ‘Friends’ Character

Monday, September 22nd, 2014 marks the 20th anniversary from the 1st Friends episode.  Everyone has their favorite Friends character, and we decided to put together a list of the top recommended Major for the Friends cast!

Here are your favorites from Friends and their College Majors

(OK, it’s not their REAL college major, but what we would have recommended):

1. Rachel Green

Fashion Merchandising Major
A program that prepares individuals to promote product lines/brands, and organize promotional campaigns, at the wholesale level to attract retailer interest, wholesale purchasing, and supply contracts. Includes instruction in wholesaling, wholesale advertising, selling, and customer relations.

2. Ross Geller

Paleontology Major
A program that focuses on the scientific study of extinct life forms and associated fossil remains, and the reconstruction and analysis of ancient life forms, ecosystems, and geologic processes. Includes instruction in sedimentation and fossilization processes, fossil chemistry, evolutionary biology, paleoecology, paleoclimatology, trace fossils, micropaleontology, invertebrate paleontology, vertebrate paleontology, paleobotany, field research methods, and laboratory research and conservation methods.

3. Joey Tribbiani

Acting Major
A program that prepares individuals to communicate dramatic information, ideas, moods, and feelings through the achievement of naturalistic and believable behavior in imaginary circumstances. Includes instruction in voice and acting speech, stage dialects, movement, improvisation, acting styles, theatre history, script interpretation, and actor coaching.

4. Monica Geller

Culinary Science Major
A program that focuses on the blending of food science and the culinary arts and that prepares individuals to work as research chefs and related research and development positions in the food industry. Includes instruction in culinary arts, food chemistry, food safety and quality, food processing, nutrition, and business management.

5. Chandler Bing

Marketing Major
A program that generally prepares individuals to undertake and manage the process of developing consumer audiences and moving products from producers to consumers. Includes instruction in buyer behavior and dynamics, principle of marketing research, demand analysis, cost-volume and profit relationships, pricing theory, marketing campaign and strategic planning, market segments, advertising methods, sales operations and management, consumer relations, retailing, and applications to specific products and markets.

6. Phoebe Buffay

(Dual Major)
Massage Therapy Major
A program that prepares individuals to provide relief and improved health and well-being to clients through the application of manual techniques for manipulating skin, muscles, and connective tissues.

Music Major
A general program that focuses on the introductory study and appreciation of music and the performing arts. Includes instruction in music, dance, and other performing arts media.

    1. I agree. He has to have a financial/mathematics degree to do what he did for the first 7+ seasons. Maybe he preferred the marketing degree, but his actual degree would be a background of mathematics, in order to be hired at the firms he worked at.

  1. Anthony, I agree he was a Statistician for most of the show. But he frequently said how much he hated his job. When he went to Advertising job after that, he did a lot of different things plus his skills as a statistician, so I though Marketing would be best since he is well rounded in many different key skills. Maybe if he was a Statistician Major, he would have understood and liked his job better!?!?!?

    1. Don’t think so, maybe he chose his major due to family pressure. The same reason he was doing the job cause you need to study to be a statistan.
