Scholarship Preparation and Applying

Listen up guys, its September and that means college everything is just about to get really crazy! Don’t worry, I’ll be right there with you guys.

So scholarships… SUPER SUPER IMPORTANT. Seriously guys, these things can be total lifesavers. Our college counselors have a little section on our school website that we can look at for scholarship opportunities, which I should probably spend more time on.  I’m currently applying for as many scholarships I can get my hands on, still taking into consideration my course load as well! Don’t sign up for something you aren’t sure you will be able to finish! A wise green man once said “Do or do not, there is no try”. Scholarships are a great way to get money for college, and to show that dream college of yours that you really take your education seriously. If people are willing to give money to kids like us, then we should be soooooo willing to put it to good use.

Not only do Scholarships help pay for the crazy tuition costs and show your dedication to your studies, but they can also lead to letters of recommendation! These are really important for colleges. It allows the school to pin point who you are in class and out. Personally I’m choosing 2 of my teachers from school. The first I’ve had for 2 years and the other all 4 years of my high school career. I chose them not only because I know they will personalize the letter, and put time into it, but because I am interested into going into those subject areas (Informational Technology and Environmental Science) for college. Our college counselor is super organized, for those of you who are not familiar with the work ethic and traits of Asians; they are like efficient machines on steroids. Yeah, they’re that good. So we have all these forms that we fill out to make sure we have everything in place; checklists to give to teachers that are writing our letters and even a format for thank you letters after! My other 2 letters of recommendation are coming from my Internship at the John A. Hopkins School of Medicine and from MyMajors.com. I got really close to my mentor so I know that he will provide my potential college with a good idea of who I am as a person and a student.

Just for kicks, my school mascot is the Kaiser Cougars. A little bit awkward for all the ladies out there, because for our all our girl’s sports teams we have fans yelling “Go lady Cougars”.

To call myself a nerd would be the understatement of the century! I think the worst word in the English language is average…and my favorite Spanish word is Gordita!! Basically, I want to change the world, in everything I do, I want to make a positive difference in my life and others. Oh and my favorite color is blue! I love every darn shade of it :)
