Sewing to me is an escape from everything. I would be sewing and hours and hours pass by like a blink of an eye. All my life, I never knew what I wanted to do nor did I have any idea of what I wanted to be, but sewing has me expressing myself in so many ways.

Eighteen-year-old Cindy Le’s Cinderella-inspired prom dress was voted by our readers as the 2021 Creative Outlook Peer Choice Contest winner.

Le, who is currently a freshman at Tarrant County College in Arlington, Texas, wore the dress to her senior prom in May 2021. She was accompanied by friend Kenny Truong (also pictured), who she credits for encouraging her to explore fashion design.

Only in the last year did Le discover her gifting in fashion design and sewing.

“Sewing has impacted my life more than I could have imagined,” she said. “Sewing to me is an escape from everything. I would be sewing and hours and hours pass by like a blink of an eye. All my life, I never knew what I wanted to do nor did I have any idea of what I wanted to be, but sewing has me expressing myself in so many ways.”

Her dream is to attend Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising or Fashion Institute of Technology and become a world-renowned designer. In the meantime, she’s going to keep creating new designs.

“What draws me to fashion design is the thrill and feeling I get from it whenever I sew or create a new piece,” she said. “To see what I created and the process it took allows me to be amazed that I am the one who created it.”
